We all want to flash that bright gleaming white smile we admire our movie and television stars for having.
And many have tried the professional route with whiteners applied by our dentist (very expensive) or store bought so called magic applications that promise “amazing results” but simply do not do as much to whiten up our teeth as we anticipated. Those of us who are frugal minded (and today who isn’t?) want to find practical ways to accomplish what we need but at affordable prices and even for free if possible. Natural tooth whiteners are the way to go. They do the job and they're cheap.
Even though natural whiteners are milder than bleaches, don't overuse them. Teeth and gums are sensitive, and you will be absorbing some of whichever topical product you use.
The strawberry method
Strawberries are proven to have teeth whitening properties. When rubbed on daily they are a good stain remover and will also whiten the enamel.
1. Cut one strawberry in half so it can fit in your mouth. Cut in half again if necessary.
2. Hold it by the skin so the inside is facing towards you. Rub it over your teeth until they are pinkish.
3. Leave on for about 5 - 10 minutes and then brush off with your regular toothpaste. You should brush twice a day. When you wake up and before you go to bed.
This method might be difficult at times as strawberries aren't available all the time.
The Salt Method
Yes, just ordinary salt you can find in your kitchen. Or even better, a quality salt such as celtic sea salt. You may not know it, but salt is a powerful cleansing reagent. Put a small amount of salt onto a toothbrush, and brush your teeth just like you do it every morning. It is vitally important to not press on a toothbrush too hard, so that salt crystals do not scratch your teeth and tooth enamel.
The Baking Soda, & Hydrogen Peroxide Method
This is a popular way to whiten teeth at home. All you need is baking soda (you can certainly find it in the kitchen), water and hydrogen peroxide. If you are somewhat afraid to use hydrogen peroxide you may use just baking soda and water. Mix these ingredients to get a paste and use it to brush teeth. Hyrdogen peroxide alone can be used as a mouth wash as well.
Other Natural Whiteners
Many health food stores carry natural products, such as calcium carbonate or malic acid, that help to remove stains by mild abrasion or with fruit compounds.
Others are:
Black walnut bark
Mustard oil
Orange peel
Crushed basil leaves
Potassium hydroxide found in hard wood ash
Foods To Whiten Teeth
We've already discussed strawberries, apples are another teeth whitener when eaten. There are also a few vegetables which have teeth whitening properties. Raw vegetables like carrots, celery, cucumbers and broccoli are abrasive in nature and they act as a natural teeth whitening agent by brushing off the stains from teeth. Therefore, one should eat these vegetables. These vegetables will provide vitamins and minerals to you. Along with this, you would also be able to get whiter teeth.
Toothpastes That Whiten
If you don't have the time to make your own whitener all the time, there are some glycerin-free toothpastes that work well for whitening. One is Eco-dent Tooth Whitener and another is Perident Toothsoap and Whitener.
